GLP-1

“I don’t even think about food anymore. I have no favourite foods at all now. Sometimes I forget to eat. I actually have to remind myself or my partner reminds me to eat. It’s just the food noise is completely gone. I just don’t ever consider food and I never feel hungry. It’s just gone. It’s as simple as that”

Use of weight loss jabs (GLP-1) has seen a meteoric rise in the last year and it is creating the most radical shift in our relationship with food in a generation. Around 1.5 million adults are estimated* to be using them, and 35% of 18-34 year olds have tried to access them through a pharmacy**. The way  GLP-1 affects how people eat and drink has potentially far-reaching implications for brands, retailers and food service providers, and of course presents opportunities too.

Through talking to 50 GLP-1 users, we have unearthed a wealth of insight demonstrating the impact the jab is having on the way users think about food, the decisions they make at home and in store, the wider impact on their households and how they feel their habits and behaviour will change in future.

“It has actually changed a lot for me because I’m now spending less overall. I’m not buying as much food, smaller portions, fewer snacks and definitely fewer takeaways. I also shop with more attention now, so I’m wasting less than what I used to before and this has helped me to save a lot of money”

This is something that brands, manufacturers and retailers can’t ignore, with some brands, like Greggs, already showcasing their strategies for targeting this fast-growing cohort.

We have a wealth of learning to share, gleaned from consumer stores that demonstrate the real impact GLP-1 is having, and the implications has for you and your business.

“The biggest thing for me is that it has changed my perception of myself and just how much better I feel about myself. I know my whole life shouldn’t revolve around how we look, but ultimately it does. And having lost a substantial amount of weight, I now finally sort of have that confidence that I’ve always wanted to have before. And I think that’s the biggest thing that’s happened, is being able to feel like myself again”
